Why does my ipod nano freeze whenever I try to play any video?

I just added several videos converted into ipod format. I played a couple of episodes during the first week and they played fine. Now my ipod simply freezes whenever I try to play any video!
Are these newer ipods poorly made ? My new one is a 4th generation nano. My old one never froze and I had it for three years.
I should add that this very expensive music player is not even a month old.
